Physical Activity: Winter Trails, Jan 7th, free. Skip the trail pass this day. Over 100 parks and recreation centers operate free for snow shoeing and cross-country skiers. Take your family up to the snow and pack some hot chocolate. ж Also, Dodgeball, $59/individual, new winter league starting. If you're over the fourth grade emotional trauma of this playground sport, then give it another shot. The welts become a bonus. Class: Flirting Skills for Everyone, Jan 6th, $20. If eye contact and smiling are your only moves, here's a class to expand to your repertoire. Even great-Grandma's dropping-the-hankie-in-front-of-the-gentleman gesture, she had to learn from someone else. Art: Lecture on Northwest Native American Artists, Jan 6th, free. Six artists featured, both known and up-and-comers. Native American motifs are prominent in our area, yet most know little about their artistry. Film: Barbarella, until Jan 5th, $8. Schwing! Jane Fonda saving the universe at her peak babeness, in go-go boots and a bikini. A 60's ultra-classic and wacky film, but really, who cares about the plot! Event: Elvis Invitational, Jan 7th, $15, as tacky as false eyelashes and a bigger guilty pleasure than buttered popcorn. Elvises compete for our love and attention in this amateur contest. Vegas could hardly do better. Lecture: The Hidden World of Jewish Meditation, Jan 9th, by donation. This must be well hidden, because we certainly never heard of it. Program covers importance of Jewish meditation on our time and provides practical advice on integrating Jewish meditation into your own spiritual practice. Wine: Singles 45+ Wine Group meets up Jan 6th, free. At this age, you already have plenty of stories and a solid perspective, so meet folks in the same space. ж Also, Eat Healthy the French Way, Jan 7th, free. The French must be onto something: they eat foods heavy in fatty creams and drink plenty of wine, yet they have low cholesterol. Learn what's up. Psychic Event: Cheryl Booth presents a workshop on Prosperity & Manifestation at Vision Quest Bookstore, Jan 7th, $25. If this workshop is as successful as it claims, that 25 bucks will be chump-change to you. They may be physic, but you still should RSVP. Exhibition: Tacoma RV Show, Jan 4th - 8th, $9. This show is out-of-town, but that's the idea of an RV after all. It's interesting to walk through an RV as expensive as a small house. With cheap gas again, RVs are getting tempting. Organization: Avalanche NW. The snow in the mountains has been piling up lately, so the avalanche threat looms. Seems like everyone in this area is a skier or snowboarder, so here's how to enjoy the mountains and the snow safely. |
New Year's Resolutions: The most common resolutions: get closer to God; work out, get in shape, and shed a couple of pounds; and finally put a stop to the addictions. Here's how to make your resolutions stick this time.
Religion: Seattle First Baptist Church Jazz Sunday. Worship the Big Guy while bee-bopping to a cool beat. How often can you get away with wearing your sunglasses and a beret in church? Get in Shape: Join the Washington Athletic Club. This is 50% health club, 25% social club, and 25% business club. Put your body in shape along with the rest of your life. Beating Addictions: In the beginning, you're in control, the addiction enhances life, and life is fun. Near the end, you're definitely not in control, the addiction is no longer fun, and life is miserable. You know what "it" is - now knock it off. |
