Seattle Spin: What's Happening in Seattle this Week

Holiday Activity: Winterfest at Seattle Center, starting Nov 26th.  A full calendar of events until New Year's Eve that has something for everyone: ice skating, family activities, choirs, dancing, music, art shows, senior activities, and plenty more beyond this.  Go down here and you'll have visions of Figgy pudding in no time.

Dinner Theater: Murder Mystery Dinner, Nov 24th (and Dec 29th), $85.  If the holidays aren't really your thing and prospects of spending time with the family not exactly cheery, then lightened up the mood with murder made fun!  Get the best of dinner and entertaining theater in one venue.

Activity: Seattle Marathon, Nov 28th, starting at $55.  No matter your physical activity level, there's a way to enjoy this marathon: walk or run either the full course (26.2 miles) or half the course.  For the casual enthusiast, getting up the energy to do a marathon seems monumental, but once you're on the course, you're glad you're there, and proud of your accomplishment when done.

Family Activity: O'Christmas Trees, Nov 29th, free.  Live entertainment, refreshments, crafts for the kids, and the mandatory photos with Santa.  Or, enjoy the Silver Bells Brunch with family and friends, Nov 30th, $40.

Music: Bob Dylan's American Journey starts at the EMP, free with museum admission.  Rediscover the early years of Mr. Dylan's career and understand what made him a cultural tour-de-force in the tumultuous 60's.  Over 150 artifacts collected for this unique exhibit.

Organization: Seattle Women's Hockey Club.  The players are amateur, but the action is not, with some body checks more impressive than the NHL.  Besides, with the ongoing labor dispute in the NHL, this is a great way to get your hockey fix.

Show: Dina Martina Christmas Special, starting Nov 26th at the Rebar, $18.  A Christmas cabaret, so if the usual holiday fare is starting to feel like cotton candy and Mary Sunshine, this is a good change of pace.

Thanksgiving Dinner: If you've decided that spending 15 hours in a hot kitchen preparing a meal that's essentially going to be consumed in 15 minutes isn't your calling this year, then plenty of restaurants are willing to fill in.  Salty's present a Thanksiving day buffetYarrow Bay Grill has a good deal of dinner for $25.  Kaspar's, one of Seattle's best restaurants for families with children, hosts a buffet dinner.

Holiday Shows: Plenty of shopping venues open up the free entertainment to entice shoppers.  The living room of Seattle, Westlake Center lights up the Christmas Tree on Nov 26th and continues with Ponies on Parade and carousel rides.  University Village, so often heralded as a lifestyle style, presents children's musical performances, each Saturday and Sunday plus Friday Nov 26th, noon until 4 PM.  If you're not Nutcrackered-out by this time, dancers perform scenes from this perpetual holiday classic on Nov 28th at Factoria Mall, 2 PM.  Pacific Place has holiday entertainment each night starting Nov 26th at 6 PM; cheap parking too!

Entertainment: Laser Led Zepplin and Pink Floyd at Pacific Science Center, every Sunday, $7.50.  Like the Rocky Horror Picture Show, this is something you should see once, and only once.

Planning Ahead:
Dec 5th, 2005 Community Campaign Dinner.
Dec 12th, Jingle Bell Run

Cozy Fireplaces:
What's a better moment than enjoying a moment of winter serenity with a cup of hot chocolate next to a warm fireplace, away from the miserable weather outside?  These places are so comfy, you'll be bringing along your bunny slippers and blankie.

The Fireside Room at Hotel Sorrento, a luxurious room dripping with the feel of aged brandy and moneyed charm.  Big leather seats next to the fireplace; live entertainment Thursday through Saturday.

Six-Seven at Edgewater Hotel, a decor straight out of an elaborate mountain lodge, minus the mounted moose head.  A great place to winter storm watch.

The fireplace in the lounge at Vintage Park Hotel, an atmosphere remindful of a rich uncle's den.  Next to restaurant Tulio, this is a great spot to enjoy your cappuccino sambuca afterwards.

    New Publications:

Gala Calendar, published once a month.  Plan ahead for the next gala or formal event.  If the only time you put on the evening wear and sparkle is the company holiday party, then you're missing a lot of Seattle.  It seems like the only time the media covers a gala is afterwards, when they're printing the photos of what already happened and describing what a good time you missed.  If you'd like to learn of a great party beforehand instead, then you just might end up as the pretty person in the published photo sometime!  Click here to subscribe.

Single Events, published about once every three weeks.  The old yarn is that it's hard to meet new people in Seattle.  There's actually a lot of fun activities going on that improve your chances of meeting someone of interest, if you know what's up.  The first step is getting out of the house; the second step is knowing what to do - this publication provides the ideas.   Click here to subscribe.

3-Day Weekend, published about once a month.  It's wondrous how much you can do within a 250 mile radius of Seattle.  There's a lot of great geography, activities, views to see, restaurants to dine at, and cute places to sleep in.  Learn about the places and trips that will have you asking for the next Friday off.  Click here to subscribe.
