Outdoors: Big Air for Dogs, May 7th - May 9th, Marymoor Park, Redmond. Your Fido has legs? Then sign him up for the Big Air Dog Competition, a jumping competition rooted in traditional water fowling. Dogs run and jump into a pool, judged on how far they fly. If there is such a thing as doggy ballet, this is it. Family: Festival of the Birds, May 8th, Woodland Park Zoo, free with zoo admission. Learn to recognize the wildlife in your own back yard. Music: Lawyerpalooza, May 10th, 6 PM, Fairmont Hotel, $25. Lawyers rocking out? Yea, twenty different puns are possible on this combination, but after the initial chuckle, this is actually a cool event. Besides, would you rather have a lawyer who's a stiff or one who can bang out a wicked cord? Mother's Day Events: May 9th. A lot of great options around Seattle for dear ol' Mom. Earth & Ocean presents a special 3-course brunch, Woodland Park Zoo hosts a champagne brunch, Enrique plays flamingo guitar during Serafina's brunch, and Palomino provides a special mother's day brunch. Can't make Sunday? Lucky for you, Salty's hosts a Mother's day brunch on Saturday. Dancing: Cinco de Mayo celebration, May 5th, 8:30 PM, Century Ballroom in Seattle, $10. Yerbabuena, an 11 piece charanga orchestra, heats up the dance floor. That Cuban music can really get the blood flowing. Opera: The Girl of the Golden West, May 8th - May 23rd, tickets start at $36. The last opera of the regular season. If you haven't seen a performance in the new McCaw Hall yet, then quit procrastinating. Clubs: Burning Hearts Burlesque, May 7th, 9 PM, Sunset Tavern in Seattle, $12. It's one of those things that's better to see in person than to try describing. Film: "Hollywood: Jews, Movies, and the American Dream" by the Jewish Genealogical Society of Washington, May 10th, 7 PM, Stroum JCC Auditorium on Mercer Island, $10 requested donation. A documentary of Hollywood's dominance during the 20's and 30's and its interaction with Jewish culture and social structure.
